Muir Mhòr appoints David Hinshelwood as new Project Director

Offshore Wind Farm confirms experienced new lead for joint venture between Fred. Olsen Seawind and Vattenfall

The Scotwind-winning Muir Mhòr Offshore Wind Farm has announced the appointment of David Hinshelwood as Project Director, who will lead the development of the floating offshore renewable project off the east coast of Scotland.

Mr Hinshelwood has been working in offshore wind since 2013, joining from SSE Renewables, and will bring his experience to bear on the exciting new joint venture proposal which was a successful bidder in the recent Scotwind process. In his earlier career, he was head of Renewables at Babcock International.

Under Mr Hinshelwood’s direction, the Muir Mhòr project will bring together decades of Scottish industry expertise to develop a highly innovative floating offshore wind project which will advance the energy transition in the North East of Scotland.

The project recently confirmed that it had already passed the £3 million milestone in supply chain contracts awarded to Scottish-based contractors now working on Muir Mhòr.

David Hinshelwood, Project Director for Muir Mhòr Offshore Wind Farm, said:

“I am delighted to be joining the Muir Mhòr team to lead this project which is situated in one of the key ScotWind leasing zones.

“It is fantastic that the Muir Mhòr project has already initiated and awarded major packages of work since being awarded seabed rights. I look forward to building on this positive progress, applying my prior experience as we develop an initial proposal.

“Our team will collaborate with partners, key stakeholders and the supply chain to capitalise on the massive Scottish offshore wind opportunity – bringing forward a project that will support Scotland’s renewable future and ambitions to reach net zero.”

Welcoming Mr Hinshelwood’s arrival, Dr Carolyn Heeps, Head of Offshore at Fred. Olsen Renewables said:

“It is great news that David Hinshelwood is on board to direct the Muir Mhòr project. David brings with him extensive experience in offshore wind and in Scotland’s renewables sector, and will be a great asset to the project.”

Ane Mette Lysbech-Kleis, Head of Offshore Development at Vattenfall said:

“It’s fantastic to welcome David Hinshelwood to the team delivering the Muir Mhòr wind farm. I look forward to having him on board as we take another step closer to fossil free living within one generation.”
